Iolani Upper School Library has a table full of drink bottles, lunch sacks and food containers at the entrance. It’s a creative way to prevent eating and drinking in the library. Iolani Upper School Head Librarian Tennye Cabrera explained it was like the “Amnesty Table” at the airport before you reach the TSA security check point. Students leave their food and drinks on the table and do not get in trouble.
Terri Tanji, Leihoku Elementary School’s Librarian has an efficient system so books get checked out on days her library assistant works. When classes visit the library, students put a marker or post-it on books they want to borrow. Leihoku Elementary Library Assistant Miss Jenn checks the books out, puts them in the classroom box which then gets delivered a few days after the class visited the library.
